Trend vs. Staple
It is very easy to confuse what’s trendy with what's essential, especially when social media dictates so much of what we see and then want. Learning to tell the difference can help you spend your money on quality items and avoid throwing it at passing trends.

Trend:
A trend refers to something that is popular and in style for only a short period of time, usually a couple months max. Trends are often driven by social media influences and change very frequently. They tend to be bold, flashy, and have a uniqueness to them that is meant to attract your attention.
Staple:
A staple is something that is considered “timeless” and will remain relevant overtime. Staples are often the foundation of a wardrobe, such as a plain t-shirt, or a good pair of jeans. Compared to a trend, staples are reliable in that they will be consistently useful in variable situations for many years.
Because a staple is something you will keep and wear interchangeably for many many years, sometimes it may be worth spending the extra money on a nice, good quality piece of clothing. Vice versa, you should stick to looking for less expensive ways to participate in trends, as they are often fleeting and in 6 months will become a piece of clothing you forgot you had.
